WAS PAUL KNOWN IN JERUSALEM?
Acts 8:1 And Saul (aka Paul) was consenting unto his (Stephen's) death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Galatians 1:21-22 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:

The phrase "unknown by face" means that he wasn't a friend of those churches at that time.  The churches no doubt knew who Paul was, but until after his conversion (when he went from being 'Saul' to being 'Paul), they were not friendly with him at all.  Not a contradiction.
