IS IT OKAY TO HATE EDOMITES?

Deuteronomy 23:7  Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land. (KJV) II Kings 14:7  He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day. (KJV)

The slaying of the Edomites in 2 Kings was a case of self-defense.  Saying we shouldn't hate them doesn't mean we shouldn't protect ourselves from them.  Not a contradiction.
