WILL BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO THE GODLY?
Proverbs 12:21  There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. (KJV)

I Peter 3:13  And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? (KJV)

Hebrews 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (KJV)

Job 2:3  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. (KJV)

Job 2:7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. (KJV)

Obviously, bad things do happen to good people.  The passage in Proverbs is saying that, in spiritual terms, evil does not have an affect on believers in the long run, that all evil will eventually be overcome.  And the 1 Peter passage is certainly not saying that righteous people will meet no harm, since the very next passage talks about the persecution of believers. Not a contradiction.
