| DOES GOD LIE? |
| Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was
impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have
fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (KJV)
Jeremiah 4:10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul. (KJV) I Kings 22:23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. (KJV)

| In the Jeremiah passage, the prophet is simply complaining
in a moment of anger. God did not lie to him. In the 1 Kings passage,
God is allowing a lying spirit to deceive one who is trying to deceive, giving
a punishment that fits the crime. Lying, and allowing a lying spirit
into the mouths of prophets, are two completely different things. No
contradiction here.
