| ARE WE STILL UNDER THE OLD TESTAMENT LAW? |
| Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since
that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
(KJV)
Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; (KJV) Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. (KJV)
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (KJV)

| Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we are no longer bound by the law the way the Israelites were. Jesus fulfilled the law (that is, He kept it perfectly), and His fulfillment of the law is enough to cover the sins of everyone else. But in the Matthew passage, He was letting those who still followed the law know that He wasn't standing in opposition to it. If people still want to follow it, they can. Not a contradiction. |
