DID JESUS SHARE THE SAME FATE AS JOHN THE BAPTIST?

Matthew 17:12-13 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.  Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Note: Critics claim this is a contradiction since John the Baptist was beheaded, while Jesus was crucified, meaning Jesus' method of execution wasn't 'likewise' to John's. What do the critics here think 'likewise' means?  Exactly the same?  Though their methods of execution were different, they were both killed by Roman authorities.  Not a contradiction.
