| SHOULD WE OBEY GOVERNMENTS? |
| Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of
God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (KJV)
Instead of typing in specific instances, I will acknowlege that there are many times in the Bible where God and/or Jesus commanded people to stand in opposition to their government, such as in Exodus 1:17-20, Daniel 3:16-18, and Mark 12:38-40.

| The Romans passage does not tell us to obey governments, but to be subject to them. In each case where God told people to disobey their government, those people were still subject to that government, and willingly faced the consequences of their disobedience. In Romans, Paul is saying that, if we stand in opposition to the government on God's behalf, we must be willing to suffer the consequences, that in the long run it will be for God's glory. For example, when Jesus stood up to the Romans, He willingly went to the cross for His disobedience. He did not try to flee punishment. Not a contradiction. |
