Aren’t there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Adad stories?
Also known as Hadad, this is a Sumerian god that critics claim parallels the Jesus story.  One site (the first link below) says he was "a storm god, Anu's son. He holds a lightning bolt in his right hand and an axe in his left. He is partially responsible for the flood. He despairs and will not attack Anzu after Anzu has stolen the Tablet of Destinies from Ellil."  Another site (second link) says he corresponds to the Old Testament god Rimmon (2 Kings 5:18).  But there are no strong parallels to Jesus.  There is a story about Hadad hiding in a bog for seven years which some critics say corresponds to a death and resurrection, even though there's no death or resurrection in the story.
