| Arent there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Baal stories? |
| Critics claim that Baal died and was resurrected. Actually, there
is only text in which something like this appears to happen, and exactly
what happens isn't clear since a large chunk of this text is missing. What
we know is that Baal dies, then there's a gap in the text, and then Baal
appears alive again. But was this a bodily resurrection like Jesus
had, or is Baal's future appearance in the form of a memory, or a ghost?
Yes, this one text comes close. But none of the other seventy-some
texts we have on Baal mention him dying at all, much less coming back to
life, so this was clearly not part of the main folklore on Baal and was almost
certainly unknown to 1st-century Israelites.
