Aren’t there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Hermes stories?
Hermes was an Greek god, the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia (daughter of Atlas).  One critic says that was born of a god and human virgin, was born on December 25th, had an attempt made on his life when he was an infant, died violently, and was resurrected.  None of these are true (he doesn't even die in any version of the story).  He (according to legends) is a fertility god and he helps guide dead souls to the underworld.  He had sexual relations with many goddesses, nymphs and mortals.  He supposedly invented foot-racing and boxing.  His Roman counterpart is Mercury.  What parallels are supposed to exist between him and Jesus?
