| Arent there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Ixion stories? |
| Nope. Critics call this one a Roman god. Actually, he's Greek
and doesn't seem to appear in Roman mythology at all. He was the son
of Phlegyas, and (according to the Greeks) the first human to shed the blood
of a kindred. He killed his father-in-law, Deionyus, and was thus exiled.
So far, his story resembles Cain's more closely than Jesus'. Zeus
took pity on him and invited him to Olympus, where Ixion tried to seduce
Zeus' wife Hera. Zeus tricked Ixion by making a cloud which appeared
to be Hera. Ixion slept with the cloud and the cloud gave birth to
the first Centaur. Zeus punished Ixion by strapping him to a winged
(or burning) wheel. As you can see, there's not much in the way of
parallels to Jesus.
