| Arent there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Odin stories? |
| Odin is a Norse god, the father of Balder,
and Wednesday is named after him (Wodan). He was apparently hung on
a tree and pierced with a spear, as Jesus was. However, scholars believe
his story dates to no earlier than the 6th century A.D., though his story
may have been inspired by the Roman god Mercury. The earliest writings
we have concerning Wodan date to around 950 A.D., over 900 years after Jesus'
time. Therefore, there's no evidence that his story influenced Jesus'.
Also, unlike Jesus, Odin didn't die in his crucifixion, but hung there
for over a week before getting down. He was eventually eaten by a wolf.
