| Does the Bible say homosexuality is a sin? |
| Nowhere does the Bible say that homosexuality itself (that is, BEING
gay) is a sin, though there certainly are passages saying that homosexual
actions are sinful, such as Romans 1:27. Therefore homosexuals (as long as
they act on their nature) are sinners. Well, according to Romans 3:23, "all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Therefore homosexuals are
not considered, at least by God, to be any worse than heterosexuals. Salvation
is not a question of whether you are homosexual or not, or whether you are
a sinner or not, but whether you are forgiven or not.
I feel that many Christians try to drive homosexuals away from God by using the passages in the Bible that say that homosexual actions are sinful. I doubt that God intends for us to use any passages from the Bible to drive people away from Him. What Christians should be doing is trying to bring people TO God, whether homosexual or not. If God is offended by a person's particular sins or lifestyle and wants them to stop, God will let them know. Christians should remember how Jesus dealt with the adulterous woman in John 8. I believe Jesus would deal with people who commit homosexual acts the same way. He did not condemn her in any way, but told her to stop committing adultery, and told her accusers not to condemn her since they were sinners as well. So Jesus condemned her SIN, but He did not condemn the person. It should also be noted that Jesus forgave her BEFORE asking her to sin no more. |
